HR Business Partner

HR Business Partner : South Region

We are looking for an HR Business Partner for our Municipal Division. With 3,700 staff and around 1,400 specialist vehicles, our household waste management division makes 4.1 million collections each week from over 2.4 million households across Britain.

Job Purpose:

To provide HR advice and support on a wide range of strategic and operational Human Resources issues in a nominated region of the supported Division(s) and more widely across the business when required.

We are looking for the ideal candidate to be based in and around the M4 Corridor. With the nature of the role you should be used to travel and overnight stays when needed.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Operate as an integral part of the supported operational or functional management team(s), taking the lead on HR matters and supporting the achievement of HR and wider objectives detailed.
• Monitor and support the completion of performance and leadership reviews.
• Work with operational teams in the business area to devise development and succession plans.
• Promote and drive the employee engagement agenda, particularly by assisting with completion and execution of engagement plans.
• Provide advice to supported functions on HR policies, remuneration, working hours, terms & conditions of employment, procedures and best practices.
• Facilitate the management of dismissal situations as necessary, including any Employment Tribunal claims
• Advise on all employment law issues.
• Plan and oversee management of local consultation exercises regarding redundancies, TUPE matters etc.
• Work with operational management teams to successfully conclude any local collective bargaining/grievance issues.
• Oversee management of absence and long-term sick and input of Company medical advisers etc. wherever necessary.
• Prepare monthly and other reports for submission to Head of HR; preparation of analytical data as required (e.g. analysis of wage offer implications etc.).

Nature and Scope:

Experience:

Commercial HR experience in a decision-making role, including at least 2-years post qualifying experience of: -

• Employee engagement

• Performance and succession management

• Pay and benefits

• Learning & Development

• Redundancy and TUPE projects

• Collective grievance and bargaining handling at Trade Union Officer level

• Discipline, dismissal and Employment Tribunal case management.

Knowledge & Skills

• Broad-based knowledge of HR good-practices

• Professional knowledge of employment law and its practical application

• General knowledge of pay, pensions and benefits issues

• Articulate and confident

• Influential and persuasive presentation and leadership style

• High standard of verbal and numerical reasoning skills

• Analytical and able to quickly assess issues and recommend and/or implement solutions

• Able to conceive and produce written correspondence and reports, often in response to complex HR issues

• IT literate, with ability to use business software, to competent-user standard, for e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations etc

• Well-developed inter-personal and counselling skills.

• Able to travel without restriction and work some unsociable hours, with occasional nights away from home

• Well-presented and enthusiastic.
